Winter Meetings: Day 2

Not much happened on the Padre front today. No signings. No trades. Bud Black was on the Coach and Bulldog show (XX Sports 1090) and said how the teams #1 goal is currently outfielders. (Just to clarify I’m not big on rumors but if I hear Sandy, Kevin or Bud mention something on the radio, T.V. or read it in print then I feel it is worth mentioning). He stated that Fukudome is pretty high on their list right now but there are a few other teams in the mix as well. He also said how happy he was with the addition of Randy Wolf. The team looked at all the medical reports on him and even talked to the doctor who performed the surgery. The doctor said that when they went in it wasn’t nearly as bad as they thought and everything went smoothly. If Wolf can stay healthy next year our rotation is shaping up to be extremely solid.

The UT is reporting that the Jake Peavy extension is worth 15 mil in 2010, 16 mil in 2011, 17 mil in 2012 and a 22 mil option in 2013 with a 4 mil buyout. That would guarantee him 52 million and if that insane option is picked up it would reach 70 million.  Apparently the Padres are close to a deal with lefty Glendon Rusch as well. I really don’t know what to make of this other than it’s a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. He didn’t pitch in the majors at all last year and had a blood clot in his lung in 2006. Also I should have that steals post up sometime today.

PS-Can the Tigers get any better?
