Random News

So if you read the previous post you’d obviously know that I’m not to interested in what’s been happening on the field lately. Hey if the players don’t care then why should I right? But for some reason I’ve gotten the itch to start blogging on here again. It probably won’t be everyday but I will be posting on here more often. Also I’m going to be getting a little help here soon. One is a local high school baseball coach/Red Sox fan who I’ve known for years and who I’m continually getting into arguments with via e-mail & text. It will be a point/counterpoint style post that should be interesting. The other help I will be receiving is from another friend of mine who is also a die hard Padres fan and actually worked for them for a short time in the office. He will be a contributing writer and will give this blog a new life. Also I completely overhauled the Minor Leagues section adding the roster for every minor league team along with each players MILB page. This took forever but it is finally complete. Also the Padres roster is always being updated and I even added a list of every single All-Star the Padres have had on the history page. What I’m trying to go for is a 1 stop shop for all your Padres needs. Lastly I will definitely be posting pictures from both the Single A All-Star game in Lake Elsinore & Triple A All-Star game in Portland on here soon. Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out my other site .400 in ’94.

I’m Matt F’n Bush!!!!

I don’t post on here often and I most certainly have never mentioned the name Matt Bush on here but this was to good of a link NOT to post…..

Raw Video: Former Padres Player Matt Bush Arrested

This was taken by someone at Fashion Valley mall here in San Diego during his most recent arrest where, according to the Union Tribune, on June 28th he was throwing stuff at cars & backed into a car on nearby Camino de la Reina (near the Union Tribune building) only to be arrested shortly after and was booked on assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, driving on a suspended license, vandalism and driving under the influence.

Today the UT reported that he agreed to a plea deal and will probably avoid jail time, but must attend rehab, get some community service & pay for the damages. Wow is all I have to say.

In other news I will be leaving first thing tomorrow morning for Portland to attend the AAA All-star game & Home Run Derby. When I get back I will post pictures & stuff from both the A All-star game in Lake Elsinore & the AAA All-star game.

New blogging endeavour

I started up a new blog called .400 in ’94. Of course it is a reference to the strike year of ’94 in which Tony Gwynn had an amazing shot at being the first player since Ted Williams to hit .400 for a season. This is not going to be a standard blog though. I have been collecting tons of Padres merch over the years & I’m always perusing eBay, Craigslist & my local swap meets, yard sales & thrift stores looking for new stuff. So I figured I’d showcase some of the items I own while also giving a little feedback about it. Sometimes I’ll even post an item that I spot online that I don’t own & kind of stands out to me. It’s a work in progress though so if anyone has any ideas or questions shoot me an e-mail (sdpads_1@cox.net)

PS-I went to the Single A All-star game up in Lake Elsinore a few weeks back and took some pictures that I will be posting on here shortly. I also will be leaving for Portland for the Triple A All-star game on Saturday and will be taking lots of photos for that as well.

Portland Beavers

So a while ago I made a little visit up to Portland for some scouting. KT called and told me I needed to check out some players that they might be calling up soon so I made the trek up there…….OK I lie I went up there for vacation. But I did get to catch my first Portland Beavers game! After going to the Padres game on the 26th (a Pads win over AZ 9-2) & the 27th (both a 5-4 Pads win and a Storm 10-4 win over Inland Empire) I was hoping the AAA club wouldn’t ruin my win streak. The minor league experience is quite a different ballgame all together. PGE park is amazing though. It definitely gives you that old ballpark feel (because it is an old ballpark) I went to the last home game (August 28th) against the 1st place Salt Lake Bees (Angels AAA) and that game drew the 2nd highest attendance this season (11,857 and if I recall correctly the max capacity is around 19,000 so it was still pretty empty). I purchased the general admission tickets and went straight to the Widmer beer garden, which is actually on the field (1st base side) which I highly recommend doing or for the under 21 crowd get GA tickets and go and sit on the LF wall. All in all it was a great game for the Beavers. Leblanc pitched well going 7 strong, the offense battered the Bees pitching all night long starting off with Dowdy & Ciofrone leading off the game with back-to-back homers, Antonelli hitting a homer & strong performances by Myrow and Ambres. I was the only person in the entire ballpark wearing a Padres jersey and hat and kind of got some grief for it….yet the majority of the people are Mariners fans..go figure. I highly recommend going to see a Beavers game if you are ever in Portland…great atmosphere and next year I expect some pretty good players up there….that is unless the Padres take them all.
